Tatsuki Hakoyama: Grand Rapids, Michigan; I grew up in Japan, spent four of my pre-adolescent years in Samoa, and moved to United States in the summer of 2001. I use paintings as visual representations to provide a fragment of my ideals, often dealing with cultural perception and human behaviors. My works focus on questioning the objectified idea of norms and perceptions within today’s globalized communities, often through juxtaposition of cultural symbolism to guide viewers into reconsidering the boundaries.
